Tony used a metal dogbrush as a 'plectrum' - he tended to wear through the metal of the washboard fairly fast, and then he'd catch his hands on the increasingly jagged edges of the hole, consequently older washboards were often quite blood stained…why didn't he replace them when they got holed?
